Skanska, officials from Collin College, Wylie leaders and state representatives celebrated the opening of the Collin College Wylie Campus with a ribbon cutting event on Friday, September 25.

The 339,000-square-foot Collin College Wylie Campus sits on a greenfield site just under 100 acres that is located at 391 Country Club Road, which is directly across from the Wylie Municipal Complex. Approximately 44 acres of the land were donated by the City of Wylie.

“It takes a village to erect a bold, beautiful multi-building campus,” said Wylie Campus Vice President and Provost of the Wylie Campus Dr. Mary McRae. “From the moment Page Southerland Page, Inc.’s extraordinary architectural designs were provided to Skanska, we forged a strong bond to transform a beautiful parcel of land into a fully operational campus. From the groundbreaking to the topping out to the myriad of details prior to opening, Skanska has been an exceptional stalwart partner in our dream.”

Skanska managed construction of the campus’ three multi-story instructional buildings and the utility plant that contains the campus cooling system. The instructional buildings also include the following:

  • Campus Library with a glass-enclosed rotunda, open seating areas, private study rooms and collaborative spaces. The library is home to the Honors Institute and the Anthony Peterson Center for Academic Assistance, which houses a math lab, writing center and a science den.
  • Campus Commons that features a student Welcome Center, state-of-the-art science labs and the CougarFit fitness center. The Campus Commons also includes admissions, advising, career services, financial aid and veteran’s assistance offices, which includes a veteran’s resource center.
  • Student Center with art studios, music practice rooms, a conference center offering high-tech amenities, Mama Lucido’s café with a Starbucks bar, and Barnes & Noble bookstore.

“The Collin College Wylie Campus exemplifies Skanska’s dedication to building projects that matter,” said Todd Reeves, vice president/project executive of Skanska’s North Texas building operations. “It’s been an honor for our team to play an essential role in providing future students with a comprehensive higher education experience, and it’s exciting to see the response to this state-of-the-art facility.”

The highly anticipated new campus opened its doors in August to students. It provides specialized facilities for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), fine arts, education and health care programs to provide students with an opportunity to gain relevant, real-world experience. Additional educational programs include business management, insurance management, education and child development, hospitality management, real estate, and health professions such as certified nurse aid, phlebotomy technician, electrocardiograph technician, medical assisting advanced practice and veterinary technology.

“It’s been a long time coming, and we are thrilled to open the doors of our new Wylie Campus this fall,” said Collin College District President Dr. Neil Matkin. “We could not have built this campus without the generous support of our taxpayers and our many valued partners. Education has the power to change people’s lives, and we believe that it should be readily accessible. This striking campus offers a wide variety of programs and provides us the opportunity to offer a warm Collin College welcome to southeastern Collin County.”
