Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS)

UAS/drones offer an innovative way to help capture project data, mitigate jobsite risks and facilitate smarter planning and construction delivery.

Making collecting jobsite data simpler and safer

Unmanned Aerial Systems (UASs), or drones, are quickly transforming the field of construction management. At Skanska, drones are being piloted on project sites across the country to help monitor site progress through photos or video; assist with inspections of hard-to-reach areas; complete aerial photogrammetry and laser scans; and augment the modeling process. Unlike traditional aerial photography, drones provide more detailed information, are quicker and often less expensive. Since they can fly into compact or challenging spaces, drones also reduce a worker’s reliance on ladders or scissor lifts, allowing unsafe conditions to be avoided. Our Skanska USA Building and Skanska USA Civil business units both have FAA-certified pilots on staff who help to lead our internal drone services for our projects.

Benefits of UAS/drones in construction

  • Reduce costs of site surveying and project monitoring
  • Efficiently verify and validate work-in-place
  • Safely perform inspections of hard-to-reach locations
  • Augment the modeling and site logistics process for project planning
