Breaking records: five CDUS project starts in 2021

In 2021, our CDUS (Commercial Development) operations celebrated a total of five project starts, the most in the business unit’s history. Here’s a look at this year’s OneSkanska groundbreakings.

The excavation for The Eight in downtown Bellevue, Washington, began in June of 2021, completing at the end of last year.

Crews extracted 200,000 cubic yards of soil, equivalent to over 60 Olympic sized pools.

More than 55 skilled construction professionals dedicated over 1,000 work hours to achieve this milestone.

The 25-floor Class A+ office tower, retail, and community space is on schedule to deliver in the fourth quarter of 2023.

“The partnership between our development and building groups allow us to conceptualize and build amazing and unique projects with speed and efficiency. The Eight is a great example of our ‘Be Better—Together’ value in action,” said Kevin McCain, executive vice president and general manager, Skanska USA Building in Seattle.

1550 on the Green, a 28-story, 375,000-square-foot Class-A office building alongside Discovery Green, is the first of three phases of Discovery West.

The three-block master plan will include 1550 on the Green as well as additional restaurants, retail, lush greenery, and more across 3.5 acres.

Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, President of Central Houston Bob Eury joined leaders from Skanska USA and anchor tenant Norton Rose Fulbright, along with other community partners on-site to celebrate the downtown site.

1550 on the Green is on schedule to be completed in 2024.

“I thank Skanska for creating a space that will help us achieve our climate goals of building a more sustainable and resilient Houston. 1550 on the Green will be a great addition not just for the Downtown District, but for the City as a whole,” said Sylvester Turner.

Located in Washington, DC's Central Business District, our new office development in DC, 17xM, is an example of Skanska integrating technology that provides a level of safety and comfort for employees in the workplace.

It will target LEED Gold and Fitwel® certifications and will be one of the first WiredScore SmartScore certified office buildings in North America.

Members from global Law firm Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, the anchor tenant, joined our team during the groundbreaking ceremony sharing, “(17xM) fits perfectly for how we envisioned our future home.”

Occupant health and wellness remained top of mind through the design process for 3901 Fairfax.

The nine-story, Class A office building located in Arlington, Virginia is WELL Core Pre-certified and will target LEED and WiredScore Gold certifications as well as an Energy Star certification.

With expected completion in 2023, 3901 Fairfax will include a 4,000-square foot rooftop terrace, conference center, 3,600 SF ground floor fitness center, electric car charging stations and a public plaza designed and programmed for the community.

OZMA, the 12-story, mixed-use development in Washington, D.C.’s NoMa neighborhood, sets a new standard with its environmentally conscious design.

Once this One Skanska project reaches completion in 2024, it will feature 275 distinctive residential units with tailored finishes, 7,900 square feet of retail space, and 17,000 square feet of sophisticated environments that will include an art studio, a secret garden, rooftop pool lounge with tranquility cabanas, and a Japanese-style tearoom connected to its atrium.

In addition to wellness-focused amenities, OZMA’s designed to meet LEED Gold, Fitwel, and WiredScore certifications—a first for residential in this area.

Construction on Heming started in September 2020. Standing nearly 300 feet tall, the 410-unit residential community in Tysons, Virginia will be a towering presence in the Scott’s Run mixed-use development.

Heming is designed to achieve LEED® Gold certification through a variety of sustainable features, including a water re-use system and electric car charging.

On the ground-level, shoppers will experience 38,000 square feet of restaurant and retail space at 1800 Chain Bridge.

A large public plaza with lively water features and amphitheater seating will tie the community to the open-air space. Great progress is being made, keeping the project on target for a 2023 delivery.

Located in one of the most desirable sub-markets in the country, 9000 Wilshire in Beverly Hills completed its excavation this summer and is on track to be completed in 2022.

Focusing on sustainability and health through building design, construction and operations, 9000 Wilshire has secured WiredScore Platinum rating and is pursuing LEED Platinum and Fitwel certification.

The office building will boast a rooftop deck and lounge, second-floor open air patio/workspace with a living green wall, a monumental art installation, and near-touchless access throughout the building.
