Creating and retaining jobs
The Elizabeth River Tunnels Project will create around 1,700 jobs and promote regional economic development. Its economic benefits include:
- More than $1 billion of construction work for local companies.
- More than 500 project-direct jobs and more than 1,000 indirect jobs.
- Approximately 200 permanent jobs in facilities management, maintenance and operations.
- Substantial subcontractor engagement of local Disadvantaged Business Enterprises (DBEs) and Small-owned, Woman-owned and Minority-owned (SWaM) businesses.
