New Science and Technology building to open Spring 2026

UNT Science and Technology Building

DALLAS, TX – Skanska, one of the world’s leading construction and development firms, announced the groundbreaking of the University of North Texas Science and Technology Building on the university’s main campus in Denton, Texas. Construction is expected to be completed in spring 2026.

The 110,000-square foot, $87 million new building will fulfill a critical need for more modern facilities that support collaborative and interdisciplinary research on campus. The building will also expand research space for areas such as biology, biomedical engineering, chemistry, physics, data science, and computer science and engineering while creating experiential learning opportunities for students. The building's distinctive multidisciplinary design will facilitate cross-training opportunities and foster greater collaboration among different disciplines.

The STEM degree programs address the growing demand for skilled professionals in Texas and across the nation, particularly in medical fields, science, and engineering. Training for these careers necessitates specialized infrastructure and state-of-the-art laboratories.

“Our team is honored to take part in further advancing UNT’s vision to become a globally recognized institution,” said Dennis Yung, executive vice president and general manager for Skanska USA Building. “At Skanska, we believe in building spaces that inspire and foster growth, and this new addition to the UNT campus aligns with our commitment to sustainability, innovation, and excellence. We look forward to seeing the positive impact this project will have for generations to come."
