Skanska, a leading global development and construction firm, today announced that it is partnering with WiredScore, the company behind Wired Certification, the only international digital connectivity rating system for commercial real estate. The collaboration will ensure all of Skanska’s new and existing developments are equipped to provide tenants with best-in-class digital infrastructure. Skanska and WiredScore are launching their partnership by announcing 2112 Penn, an 11-story, 240,000-square-foot, LEED® Gold certified, Class-A office building in Washington D.C has been Wired Certified Platinum.

“Whether office or multi-family, best-in-class internet connectivity correlates with productivity efficiency and is essential in accommodating new technologies and business functions,” said Robert Ward, President and CEO of Skanska USA Commercial Development. “Through this venture with WiredScore we are building on our commitment to create sustainable working environments that exceed the needs of our current and future tenants.”

Throughout 2020 and beyond, Skanska will work collaboratively with WiredScore to certify its development portfolio in the U.S. that currently consists of 15 buildings nationwide. Additionally, the company has confirmed they are joining the WiredScore Smart Council, a select group of international real estate industry experts working to develop a global smart building certification framework.

Since its launch in 2013, WiredScore has certified more than 400 million square-feet of commercial office space in North America, with 575 million square-feet in more than 2,400 buildings certified worldwide, establishing itself as the respected benchmark for digital connectivity for the commercial real estate industry.

“Skanska, as a leading forward-thinking developer, understands the need to future ready their assets now to make the transition from current to future technology as seamless as possible for their tenants in today’s rapidly changing digital landscape,” said Dave Miller, head of WiredScore in Boston and Washington D.C. “We are thrilled to partner with Skanska to ensure their buildings across the U.S. are fully equipped to offer the most well-connected office spaces possible.”

Skanska is actively pursuing Wired Certification of:

  • Two Drydock, a 13-story, 230,000-square-foot, Class-A office building with 9,000 square-feet of retail in Boston’s Seaport District;
  • 17xM, a 34,000-square-foot land parcel that is well-positioned for a ground-up office development in Washington D.C.’s central business district;

The firm is also a National Fitwel Champion, underscoring its dedication to developing optimal environments that prioritize tenant and resident health, safety and wellbeing.
