Skanska has signed a contract with the Port Authority of New York and Jersey to rehabilitate and replace supporting structures and provide upgrades for the George Washington Bridge in New York City, USA. The contract is worth USD 452M, about SEK 3.9 billion, which will be included in the US order bookings for the third quarter 2017.
Skanska will replace suspender ropes and protective sleeves, rehabilitate the main cables, install dehumidification systems for the main cables and their anchorages, and replace the main span sidewalks and upper level railings with fencing. The project also includes constructing approach structures for the main span sidewalks and replacing the roadway lighting on the main span and installing sidewalk lighting.
Construction underway and is expected to be completed in 2025.
