Training and Development Programs

At Skanska, providing our people with opportunities that foster career development and growth is a top priority. The ability of leaders to take responsibility for their own development and lead others in line with the company’s values is as important as having the right core skills. Excellent leaders ensure both their own development and the development of the people they are leading.

Skanska uses internal and external development programs to train employees.

Skanska Learning Center

At Skanska, we use the Skanska Learning Center (SLC) to provide you with role-specific training to ensure you have the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to perform your job and develop your career.

Skanska Leadership Academy

Skanska Leadership Academy is a nomination-only intensive development program targeting senior managers and emerging executives.

The program consists of:

  • Pre-work to prepare participants for intensive training
  • Two separate weeks of in-depth classroom learning
  • Intersession assignments between the classroom sessions
  • Virtual (online/teleconference) follow up cohort sessions.

The curriculum focuses on emotional intelligence, authentic leadership, leading and developing talent, negotiation skills, managing complexity, and other topics designed to enable experienced managers to grow into higher level, strategic executive leaders.

STEP – Skanska Top Executive Program

STEP is designed specifically for Skanska's top executives to foster a collaborative and integrated culture, to build knowledge of our business and strategy, to create value in the marketplace and to develop managers into business leaders. STEP is a tailor made program developed in cooperation with two of the world's leading business schools, IMD and Ivey.

Skanska Stretch

Skanska Stretch is a global leadership program for Skanska’s future leaders. The goal is to build knowledge and leadership capabilities to increase the ability to take on greater responsibilities and lead in an international environment, as well as to build an international network for knowledge sharing and business development.

Skanska Unlimited

Discover the Skanska world through our exciting employee exchange program. This is a great opportunity to work in another business unit or job function, either in the U.S. or internationally, for a period of three to six months.

Continuing professional development

We work with professional bodies and support our people to reach the highest levels in their chosen careers by becoming members of associated bodies.

Support can include financial assistance, through our network of professional people, or by putting a structured framework in place.

We also support continuing professional development, so people continue to grow and lead the way in their chosen fields.

Mentoring and coaching

At Skanska, we expect a lot from our employees in terms of continuous growth and development. Mentoring is an important supplement to both on-the-job training and formal training programs. Our knowledge lies in the technical and functional skills that enable us to do our jobs, and also in our processes and ways of working, how we lead and manage others, and how we make the best decisions. Skanska employees have a wealth of knowledge in all of these areas, and mentoring is one of the most effective ways to accelerate the transfer of that knowledge, to the benefit of both you and our organization.
