Richard Cavallaro, President & CEO, Skanska USA Civil

Richard Cavallaro is President & CEO of Skanska USA Civil Inc., one of the leading providers of construction solutions for transportation, water, power and industrial clients in the United States.

On June 1, 2017, Rich returned to leading USA Civil after a successful, nearly three-year stint as President and CEO of Skanska USA. While leading US operations, Rich took aggressive steps to create not just the best safety program, but a culture of accountability and care to back it up. He also spearheaded a drive toward a collaborative, one-company culture that brought together all of Skanska’s services and expertise for the benefit of customers. Skanska’s largest project ever, the redevelopment of LaGuardia Airport’s Central Terminal Building, is a perfect example of bringing together Skanska’s construction and investment capabilities to expedite delivery of critical infrastructure.

From 2009 to 2014, Rich led an aggressive expansion of Skanska USA Civil’s geographic footprint beyond its successful regions in the Northeast, Southeast and Southwest by spearheading efforts to secure work in the Pacific Northwest and Northern California. He also successfully pushed sharing expertise across the company and exploring how to best implement alternative delivery methods. As a result, Skanska USA Civil can execute all types of projects in any region of the country. In order to support the company’s growing presence in the energy sector, Rich launched a national Power & Industrial group.

Rich joined Skanska in 1996 as a senior estimator, playing a key role in successful bids totaling billions of dollars. He began his career as an airport engineer for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Since graduating with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from City College of New York, Rich has spent more than 30 years in the industry.

Rich currently serves as chairman of New York Building Congress and sits on the board of Family & Children’s, an organization dedicated to helping vulnerable children, seniors, families, and communities in Long Island.
