The State Street Financial Center located at One Lincoln Street in downtown Boston is prominently located near Boston’s South Station Transportation Complex. In order to meet the owner’s aggressive scheduling goals, Skanska employed the innovative “Up/Up” construction method, where simultaneous construction of the below-grade parking structure and the steel superstructure occurred, eliminating six to eight months of construction time on this project. The 37-story building includes five levels of below-grade parking (the minimum number of below-grade levels for this construction method to be meaningful) and provides almost 900 parking spaces. Adding to the complexity of this project, an existing 10-story garage was demolished along with another adjacent five-story structure before construction on the building could begin. Skanska served as the Construction Manager on this project.
