QIAGEN is a global biotechnology industry leader and one of Montgomery County, Maryland’s most prominent, fast-growing companies. The 66,735-SF expansion on the Germantown campus enables the company to consolidate several key manufacturing operations and accommodate an expected 90 new jobs. Among QIAGEN products to be manufactured within the expanded facility will be the company’s flagship product: the digene HPV Test platform, a screening test that identifies women with high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV) infections that can cause cervical cancer. HPV testing enables diagnosis and treatment to be put in place before cervical cancer can develop. The project achieved LEED Silver certification.
The overall project is a multi-building expansion of the Qiagen Germantown facility comprised of the following phases:
Phase One: Manufacture/Utilities Expansion/Sitework
Phase One consists of a three-story, 52,175-SF manufacturing and mechanical/utility space (approximately 11,520-SF) in addition to 4th floor executive office suite (3,900-SF) and mechanical penthouse (6,600-SF). Approximate total new expansion area of 62,675-SF.
Phase Three: Canteen/Cafeteria Expansion
Phase Three consists of a 3,630-SF expansion to an existing cafeteria plus a loading dock.
