Since that time, the firm has been awarded several contracts, many of them design-build, for the construction of such facilities. For Amtrak, the firm completed a 115,000-square-foot inspection facility and a 15,000-square-foot train car washer in Washington, D.C. Also for Amtrak, the firm completed two facilities, both 60,000-square-foot inspection plants one in Boston, MA, and another in Sunnyside, NY. For New York City Transit, Skanska USA Civil was awarded three such facilities and successfully completed construction of Highbridge Yard Maintenance Facility, Arch Street Shop and Yard and Corona Yard Maintenance Facility. Highbridge Yard and Arch Street Shop and Yard are part of the East Side Access Program, which will provide LIRR (Long Island Rail Road) Service to Grand Central Station by 2007. One of the more challenging aspects of constructing Highbridge Yard and Arch Street Shop and Yard was that both assignments required an enormous amount of work around active railroad tracks, a skill for which Skanska USA Civil is highly regarded. Corona Yard, Highbridge Yard and Arch Street Shop were all live rail yards when our projects were being constructed. We have a highly valued record for safe construction practices in those situations.
