The $600 million, 400,775-SF, two-building academic and science research and teaching facilities were built for the City University of New York (CUNY) on campus at the City College of New York (CCNY). Both buildings house an extensive range of research facilities in the areas of biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, nanotechnology, and computational sciences. The Advanced Science Research Center (ARSC) provides space for state-of-the-art research and development laboratories and supporting spaces, and contains clean room laboratories, a cafeteria and 100-seat lecture hall. The CCNY Science Facility provides 150,142-SF of space for state-of-the-art research and teaching laboratories, predominantly in the areas of biology, chemistry and physics. The four- and five-story, steel framed buildings share a 114,104-SF ground floor and vivarium lab located in the basement. A campus green sits between the two buildings. The project qualifies to achieve LEED Silver certification.
