Skanska is providing preconstruction and construction management services for the exterior and interior renovations to Cordell Hull, a 479,142-SF, 11-story state office building located in downtown Nashville, Tennessee. Originally built in the 1950s, this historic landmark was named in honor of Cordell Hull, a Tennessean who served as the 47th United States Secretary of State under President Franklin D. Roosevelt. The project includes demolition of the Central Services building, complete interior demolition and renovation of the historic Cordell Hull building, installation of a 450-LF underground capitol connector, linking the Cordell Hull building to the State Capitol building, and a three-story parking garage with a green roof. Careful measures are being taken to protect historic elements of the building during the renovation, including the custom pink marble lining the interior hallways and sculpture groupings at each corner of the building by noted sculptor Puryear Mims, depicting Tennesseans at home, on the farm, in industry and at war. The renovated building will serve as the new home for Tennessee's legislature in November 2017.
