Skanska is providing construction management services for the $225 million, 540,000-SF expansion of the UF Health Shands Cardiovascular and Neuroscience Hospital in Gainesville, FL. The nine-story expansion will include 216 new inpatient beds, outpatient clinic area, (16) new operating room suites, radiology equipment rooms, support space for materials management and loading dock area. The new operating rooms will include: five Hybrid OR’s, two CT’s, two MRI’s, an iMRI, Cath Lab Bi and Single Planes, EP Bi and Single Planes, General Radiology, Fluoro and Ultrasound. The facility will also provide a cafeteria, chapel and waiting rooms for patients, staff and guests. Finally, an eight-level, 212,000-SF parking garage to accommodate up to 700 cars will be built on site. The expansion project is located adjacent to the UF Health Cancer Hospital which was completed by Skanska in 2009. A bridge will connect the two buildings across the entrances. In addition, the new expansion is connected to the Cancer Hospital via an underground walkway, 2nd floor OR area and an outdoor area on the 3rd floor at which visitors and patients from both facilities can enjoy dining outside.The project is currently seeking Green Globes Certification.
