The 117,000-SF Chemistry/Chemical Biology building on the main campus of the University of Florida consists of undergraduate teaching laboratories, classrooms, auditorium, teaching support, graduate research laboratories and offices. The new building provides a centralized home for lower-level undergraduate chemistry instruction. It also provides state-of-the-art research facilities for faculty and graduate students. The new facilities house general, organic and analytical chemistry, and biochemistry laboratories. The labs include walk-in freezers, tissue culture labs, cold rooms maintained at 4 degrees, and large -70 degree freezers. The new building is located in the historic district of the University of Florida, and will be of Collegiate Gothic Style, which is the character that defines the features of the existing buildings within the vicinity of the project. The project also features Gainesville Range Red Brick on the exterior. The project is targeted to be LEED Gold certified.
