Shawn Hurley is president & CEO of Skanska USA Commercial Development, which invests in and develops highly sustainable office and multi-family properties in select markets in the U.S.
Shawn is focused on growing Skanska’s office and multi-family development operations in its existing markets in Boston, Houston, Seattle, and Washington D.C.; improving operational effectiveness and efficiency within the group; and evaluating opportunities to expand into new U.S. markets.
He has nearly 20 years of experience in project development and joined Skanska in 2010 as executive vice president and regional manager in Boston. During his time in this role, he negotiated the acquisition of more than 1.5 million square feet of development rights and supervised the development of more than $1 billion worth of projects in the Greater Boston area. Shawn oversaw development of five properties in Boston including 101 Seaport, 121 Seaport, Watermark Seaport, 1350 Boylston and 150 Second Street.
Prior to joining Skanska in 2010, Shawn was regional partner at Urban Residential, LLC where he oversaw the residential and mixed-use development activities of the Boston and Philadelphia offices. Previously, he was a project manager at Hines in Los Angeles.
Shawn received a Master of Science in Real Estate Development from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis. He is a member of Advisory Board of the MIT Center for Real Estate, the Board of Directors of NAIOP Massachusetts and the Advisory Board of Urban Land Institute Boston.

Chief Operating Officer, Washington, DC / New York, NY
As Chief Operating Officer, Robert is on the company’s Deal Review Committee as a permanent member of the risk management team, which reviews all of the organization’s investments. He also focuses on driving Skanska’s corporate initiatives and oversees the group’s centralized professional services support team, which includes sustainability, communications, marketing, innovation and safety. Robert has more than 20 years in the development and construction industry, and most recently served as both the Executive Vice President (EVP) of development operations in Washington, D.C. and the interim EVP of development operations in Houston. In 2009, he helped launch the company’s commercial development business in the U.S., and was instrumental in the completion of its first self-financed office development, 733 10th, which was completed in 2011. During his tenure as EVP, he has overseen the acquisition of more than 1.7 million square feet of office and multi-family development rights and the delivery of two speculative office projects in Washington, D.C. Robert is a member of the Board of Directors of Skanska Commercial Development Europe; the Board of Trustees of the Federal City Council; the Washington, D.C. Developer Roundtable; and the Board of Directors of the First Tee of Washington, D.C. He is a graduate of Virginia Tech and serves on the Virginia Tech Program on Real Estate Advisory Board.

Catherine L. Pfeiffenberger, LEED AP, BD+C
Senior Vice President, New York, NY
Catherine is responsible for strategic long term planning, working with institutional investors on partnership opportunities and divestments and demonstrating the value proposition of sustainable investment practices.
Before joining Skanska, Catherine had an extensive career at Lehman Brothers in public finance, project finance, and public/private partnerships, working with a wide range of clients throughout the United States. She was responsible for more than $20 billion of financing ranging from industrial development authorities and hospitals to co-generation facilities and cash flow financing for states and localities.
She is on the Board of the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate (AFIRE), a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI)’s Responsible Property Investing Council and the Green Building Advisory Committee for the New York Academy of Sciences. Catherine earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from the State University of New York at Albany.

Chief Financial Officer, New York, NY
As chief financial officer, Axel oversees Skanska USA Commercial Development’s asset portfolio, in collaboration with the other members of its senior management team, to maintain the company’s strong balance sheet, which allows Skanska to self-finance the vast majority of its development projects. He is also responsible for controlling, reporting and managing risk & return while implementing financial strategies for project planning and development.
Axel began his career with Skanska in Sweden in 2008 and joined Skanska USA Commercial Development in 2010. He previously served as finance director for the group, where he was responsible for controlling and reporting.
Axel completed his master’s degree in Economics & Business at the Stockholm School of Economics.

Senior Vice President – General Counsel, Washington, DC / New York, NY
Chris oversees all legal matters for CDUS. With more than 15 years of corporate and real estate legal experience, Chris has led the acquisition, financing, leasing and disposition of dozens of Trophy and Class A office and multifamily properties in many US metropolitan markets. In recent years, Chris has maintained a particular focus on the structure of complex joint venture projects and has arranged and closed over a half billion dollars in real estate financings in both a legal and business capacity.
Prior to joining Skanska, Chris worked for Clark Enterprises as assistant general counsel. Chris has also worked as corporate and real estate counsel at Weil Gotshal, DLA Piper and Goulston & Storrs. He is currently on the board of directors of the Spanish Education and Development Center (Washington, DC), is a member of the DC Building Industry Association and is a graduate and member of Leadership Arlington (VA).
Chris received a bachelor’s degree from Providence College, a master’s from State University of New York, Albany and a Juris Doctor from American University, Washington College of Law.

Daniel Shay, HSPR
Vice President, Human Resources, New York, NY
With more than 20 years of Human Resources experience, of which 15 have been spent with Skanska USA, Dan currently provides HR support to CDUS. He is responsible for providing full service/generalist support to CD’s corporate staff and 4 regional offices as well as strategic guidance in all HR related areas.
Since joining the New York operation of Skanska USA Building in 2000, Dan has served as a trusted advisor and Human Resources Business Partner in support of Skanska’s continued growth in the United States. While serving as the Northeast Hub Leader, Dan managed a team of 12 HR professionals providing strategic counsel and direction to several executive teams within Skanska USA Building and USA Civil focusing on organizational development, talent management, recruiting, and training & development.
Prior to joining Skanska, Dan served as the Human Resources Manager for the Tyree Organization, where he oversaw all HR initiatives including direction and participation in all activities concerned with developing sources of qualified applicants for various positions, counseled managers and employees and coordinated training programs.
Dan received a Bachelor’s Degree from York College of Pennsylvania and is a Certified Human Capital Coach.
