Solar Monitoring

In December 2010, Skanska put the finishing touches on a $1.5 million 258 kW photovoltaic solar array, set in 15 rows and comprising 1,260 individual PV panels. The installation is on 2.5 acres of Skanska’s property in Cortez, adjacent to the office and equipment shop.

The project was a joint effort between Skanska and Four Corners Solar, a Southwest Colorado based solar engineering firm. Skanska workers did the construction work, from initial site work to installing the solar arrays.

Power generated is forecast to be equivalent to annually:

• Burning more than 670,000 lbs of coal
• Using 352,000 gallons of water
• Offsetting more than a million tons of carbon emissions
• Driving 12 million miles
• Planting 2,500 trees
