Bill Flemming is president of Skanska USA Building Inc. responsible for the overall management and operations of the unit, which has 3,000 employees in 26 offices and nearly 600 active projects.
Under his leadership, Skanska has developed a culture of teamwork, transparency and performance excellence. To provide clients with the most innovative technologies and top expertise, Bill established Skanska’s Centers of Excellence for sports and entertainment, healthcare, federal, mission critical and aviation.
Before assuming the helm, Bill served as co-chief operating officer for the company’s Boston, Connecticut, New York and New Jersey operations. In this role, he managed prominent projects such as MetLife Stadium and the Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University.
Bill first joined Skanska as a senior estimator in 1987 and quickly moved up the ranks to corporate senior vice president of preconstruction services. In this role, he was responsible for streamlining national procurement, cost estimating and design management, including assisting local operations in managing the construction and design processes on design-build projects. He also led numerous science and technology and educational projects like the University of Massachusetts medical research facility, Hoffman-La Roche multidisciplinary science building and Amgen’s Embrel manufacturing facility.
Bill holds a Bachelor of Science in both construction management and architectural engineering technology from the University of Cincinnati in addition to a Master of Business Administration from Golden Gate University. He has attended management seminars at IMD business school in Switzerland and the University of Cambridge Programme for Sustainability Leadership in Brussels.
He currently sits on the boards for United Way of New York City and the University of Cincinnati College of Engineering and Applied Sciences. He is also a member of the World Economic Forum, the International Society of Pharmaceutical Engineers and the New York Academy of Sciences.
